MONKFISH | Lophius piscatorius
Monkfish
Monkfish are large (averaging around 10 kilos) but only the tail of this prehistoric looking fish is edible. It is often refered to as the poor man's lobster because of its similar texture (it is the most firm textured of any fish) and flavour. Because monkfish don't run in schools like many other commercially caught fish, the fishermen can count on only what they are lucky enough to catch.
